Thrown at them like rocks that beat the skin of those we do not understand. “You are beautiful” we yell with such contempt. “God Dammit! Why don’t you just believe me, you’re beautiful” . It is not a compliment. It is a victory march of your own self-sacrifice. “You are beautiful” we say through gritted teeth. “You are beautiful” we spit out through tears, looking at a reflection of hate. “You are beautiful” we say holding the body that has never felt the arms of another. “You are beautiful”.
” DON’T tell me I’m beautiful”. A word like that floats on the surface, give me something with depth. Tell me I’m intelligent. Tell me I’m courageous. Tell me that when I laugh the whole world smile…

When I Woke Up This Morning…

my watch said 8:30, but didn’t say if it was morning or night. As I do in such cases, I checked my computer. Yay! I can sleep some more! But first I had to check my friends on “Readers,” and was moved to share a dream from last night I barely remember, but it was one of my rare funny dreams.

It was kind of a re-run of “You’re Fired!” and in it that star had become a comedian and had brought all his baggage to the white house with him. Yep! We had a comedian for president, with all the pouts and name-calling and bad habits like feeling up women and denigrating them left and right. He even used the Tweeter–or Twitter — for his presidential announcements. The first thing I dreamed about him doing was trying to wipe out the office of ethics (chuckle).  It was a gas, I tell you.  his favorite news outlet was the National Enquirer.  He even justified some of his behavior by saying out loud, over tv, that he was right because HE was the president, and “they” weren’t.

He started this game which caught on nationwide called “Fake News.”  He would make a presidential statement and people could guess whether it was true or not. And the temper tantrums he would throw!  And the clever ways he would “get even” with  others. Talk bout a blatant bully! He said the real military soldier heroes weren’t the ones who got killed, but those that lived.  He publicly mimicked the disabled and joined the audience in targeting minorities. He installed his family into the white house–which  is usual–but he put some of them in official presidential rooms. (Wonder who got the Lincoln room?) He’d hold meetings for everyone round the table in order to give them a chance, one by one,  to compliment him on his recent “performance.”   He’d start a back alley fight with his predecessor–(metaphorically speaking).  He even had the balls before the election to make millions of dollars while pretending a fake university. He insulted his allies, even white ones.  Sometimes he would forget to salute during the  pledge of allegiance.  He put climate deniers, professional racists, good buddies in the habit of lying, enemies of public schools, and anti-union folks into positions where they could work their villainy onstage.  It was when he, amid laughter and applause from the audience, bragged he could shoot someone and get away with it, that I awoke and discovered I hadn’t been dreaming a comedy, but  a nightmare. Moreover, I wasn’t dreaming any more.  I woke to REALITY!

North Korea really has the muscle as we learned on the Fourth of July, and Trump is about to rub elbows with a whole roomful of national leaders.  What personal insult might set off a real “battle?”  He has shown he can’t control his narcissism, his mouth, his tweets and his habit of getting even for imagined disses.

I hope someone in the white house has disabled the red button for the next few days!

Today is Independence Day in the United States, and across this great land we mark the occasion with the iconic images of parades, fireworks, waving flags and blackened weenies on the grill. But one thing you rarely see is the actual image of what this holiday is all about. THE WORLD IS FLAT AFTER ALL

Dubbed Democracy, it used to be

top of the line, the lead ship, at sea,

and on the land it served us well,

until the  strains of its death knell

fell,

bearing an underbelly swole

with all the pilfered things they stole

in broad daylight, and  on t.v.!

Gone is the half-belief in he

who’ll take us safely to the shore

while staying steadfast to the core.

The compass nestles in the deep

while those on board remain asleep.

They used to say the earth was round,

that right makes might, but I found

that all I knew I now know not,

nor how to tell the truth from rot,

and not so sure that we’ll endure,

to make a safe arrival.

I’m going to have an angry rant. And I’m not going to apologise for it. Because a man I had nothing but respect and admiration for said some truly contemptuous things this week. Yeah you guessed right – I’m talking about Steven Fry.

I’d always held Mr Fry in high esteem. He’s a highly intellectual man who has made a stand for people with mental health issues. To me, it was admirable to see a celebrity talk openly about the hideousness of depression and disclose that it is something they have experienced. That’s why I was so impressed when I saw Ruby Wax give a talk on her latest book this week.

At the same time, that is what makes his moronic comments about abuse victims really sting. I don’t usually get angry about the stupid things celebrities come out with, but I was genuinely hurt by him trivialising the…

bad for health and knees

I fell off the wagon

went out to dinner

Thirty years ago, families with biological children were unlikely to adopt. In our present culture, considering adoption has become almost trendy, thanks to celebrity endorsement, movies like Annie and educational campaigns like National Adoption Month. Individuals, couples and families with children (both young and grown) are adopting.

In spite of the increase in attention, 102,000 children in the foster care system alone wait for an adoptive family (adoptuskids.org). This number doesn’t account for children awaiting agency placement. So, should you consider adoption? Here’s why you shouldn’t (should).

1. “Adoption is too expensive.”

Cost is a valid concern. Our friends adopted from China; the total was well over $30,000. Agency adoptions in the US can be just as expensive. Shelling out that kind of cash is not an option for most people.

I know you. I understand you. I’ve been there. My son died – a year ago, today! When I should be waking up to his midnight cries, I was crying alone at midnight. When I should be by his cot and cradle, I was by his hospital bed. When I should be feeding him and playing with him, I was arranging for his funeral. I died a 1000 deaths everyday after. Please know that I know you. If I hugged you now, held your hands tight, you’d know that I know.
