While it has been like watching a ship turn in a harbor, the Republican admonitions of the candidacy of the latest former president are slowly piling up. Since Donald Trump’s efforts to incite, invite and inspire the insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol last January 6 to secure his status as president, I have long felt he was done as a political candidate. I still do.
Yet, after initial backlash against him by Republicans, too many have backslid and have tried to whitewash what happened in an Oz-like fashion. Now, there is more than a trickle occurring where admonishing the former president’s candidacy is not the kiss of death in Republican worlds as it once was. The other day, I posted a well-articulated letter to the editor from a woman who called herself a “sane conservative” who said she has no candidate, the former president lost the election and referenced the GOP as not living up to its ideals.
In an article called “Donald Trump should not lead the country again, says the Republican leader of the National Governors Association” by Nicole Gaudiano of Business Insider, the following negative endorsement is revealed.
“The Republican chairman of the National Governors Association said on Saturday that Donald Trump should not lead Republicans or the country again.
‘I do not believe Trump is the one to lead our party and our country again, as president,’ Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson told Insider on the sidelines of the NGA Winter Meeting in Washington, DC.
Insider asked Hutchinson whether he wants Trump to run following a video that recently surfaced in which Trump declares on the golf course that he is ‘the 45th and the 47th’ president.
Asked who should lead instead, Hutchinson said ‘that’s what the election is all about.’“
The reason I am highlighting these negative endorsements of Trump is the wrong question is being asked by Republicans. It should not be whether Trump could win again? The question is how can someone vote for a president who not only consistently lies to and bullies people, but has betrayed his country and was so incompetent and controlling in his pandemic response, doctors, epidemiologists and data scientists in and out of government had to be secretive as they bandied together to get information out about the disease?
Taking the former president at his word is not only a fool’s errand, it is dangerous to the lives of people.

I can remember when folks sought transparency in relations at all levels. Seems now they’re hep on not putting anything in writing. History is being deleted or vetted to prevent transparency. Snake oil, anyone?

“Has Trump uttered a single word about those who have died or are sick from the virus? Has he mentioned Americans stranded in other countries?
No, he hasn’t. His singular focus is the economy. Why? Because his electoral fortunes are tied to the economy. As are those of his businesses. And Trumpflakes see nothing wrong with it.
When this nightmare mercifully ends, I never want to hear how we need a businessman to run the show ever again. Even if it’s a successful businessman, unlike this con man.
You’re going to see the country become even more divided over the next few weeks. The change is already apparent on Fox News and Trump’s twitter feed.
Money over people. Social distancing will soon be looked at as a partisan affair to destroy Trump. As the virus spreads, he’ll blame governors and mayors and the media and Democrats.
It’s what he does. It’s all he knows. Tell people whatever he thinks will sell the moment.
The thing I’ve come to realize is that the Republican Party no longer has an identity without Trump. They’ll follow him right off a cliff. The GOP has been subsumed into the Trump Organization.
Last night, the Lt. Gov. of Texas went on Fox News and said that grandparents would rather die of the virus than keep the economy shutdown for much longer. Yes, he really said that. Something something about grandkids and freedom. He said his “heart was lifted after hearing the president speak” [about the cure being worse than the disease].
The World Health Organization just warned that the United States could become next epicenter of global coronavirus crisis, citing ‘very large acceleration’ in U.S. infections. Wonderful. There is a direct correlation between the Trump administration calling COVID-19 a “hoax” and “the flu” and all kinds of other bullshit to the skyrocketing infection numbers.
The other side is filled with ignoramuses who think it’s a fair tradeoff to lose 1-3% of the population in order to push the stock market numbers up.
Ironically, the former is a group that was falsely accused of setting up “death panels” when it helped millions of Americans receive access to healthcare.
The latter calls itself the “pro-life” party but it’s nothing more than a death cult. Choose your fighters wisely. And don’t expect me to agree to disagree when you’re okay with millions of people dying.”

President Donald Trump has not been shy about berating anyone who doesn’t “stand proudly” when the United States’ national anthem is playing at sports events. But a video posted on Instagram shows Trump moving around quite a bit when “The Star-Spangled Banner” was playing during the Super Bowl on Sunday.
The Miami Herald’s Sarah Blaskey notes that the video “shows Trump greeting guests, adjusting his chair, and straightening his suit jacket as other attendees — including First Lady Melania Trump and their teenage son — stand with their hands over their hearts. As ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ crescendos, Trump raises both of his hands in the air, and twirls them around as if conducting the music.”
Blaskey notes that the brief video, which has also been posted on the Miami Herald’s website, was “included in an Instagram story by a real estate agent for a Russian-American firm who frequents Mar-a-Lago and other Trump properties and events.”

Dear (free) World,
Trump and his immoral, corrupt regime do not speak for the vast majority of us here in America. They have subverted democracy and made it difficult or impossible for us to have a voice, especially in the voting booths, since they have rigged the system so it seems only they can win. Using machiavellian, underhanded tricks and machinations, with little to no transparency, they have succeeded in taking the reigns of power and now they have a huge advantage over the People.
I am so ashamed of our nation right now. I am so sorry that our heartless and amoral leader has chosen the suffering and torture of innocents, the wanton destruction of the earth for personal and financial gain, and the constant lies he tells to paint over the truth. I am sorry he does not value empathy, kindness, being a good neighbor to our allies, and being a good steward of the earth. I am sorry he has aligned us with the cruelest and most inhumane dictatorships in the world, as he continues to cut off former ties with our true allies: other western democracies. I am sorry he targets our most vulnerable citizens for abuse (the sick, poor, young people, People of Color, the disabled, LGBTQ, Muslims, Latin Americans, migrants who just want a chance at a good life, etc.) and hardworking Latin American citizens who are already here, who work hard and help our economy, while he continues to reward parasitic greedy billionaires and environment destroying corporations that do nothing but take, and take, and take from We the People. We’re being extracted by these predators, and yet we are the ones who are gaslighted and blamed for being the takers, even when we’re working three jobs to survive.
We are sorry he has empowered the worst among us, people who are blinded by their hatred of others who don’t look or pray or act just like them, and others of very low character. Please know most of us see what he is doing, and we hate it as much as you do. Our hearts are breaking that we can do so little, but we are still trying everything we can to fight back against the forces of evil. It’s so hard and exhausting though, and we seem to have so few tools at our disposal.
To the rest of the free world, we are so very sorry. This isn’t what America is really about. We have been hijacked.
Please don’t give up on us. We may need your help. Most of us are good people who wish this wasn’t happening.
