No one should be denied access to a homeless shelter because of who they are: On Friday, July 23, 2020, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) proposed a new rule that would gut protections for transgender people seeking safe shelter. This rule would strip away current protections that prohibit federally-funded homeless shelters from discriminating against transgender people. The new rule permits shelters to discriminate, which will result in needless suffering and death. (O-blog-dee-O-blog-dah)

MYSTERY STORY 2020

Published September 22, 2020 by Nan Mykel

PREFACE – When we hop on this runaway train—destination November 3rd or later—we notice that it occurs during a worldwide pandemic, deteriorating economy and struggle for the nation’s soul. This story will have an ending—some month, some year—and at that time the reader will learn whether this was an adventure tale, a tragedy, or an epitaph.

CHAPTER ONE — Still technically a democracy—a woman recently mailed the president an intercepted poisoned ricin-laced letter—the day dawns with a struggle to fill a Supreme Court seat vacated only a week before by the death of its occupant, after Wisconsin had already begun the November third presidential election process. The CDC has just published and then retracted recommendations to safeguard lives from the corona virus, and the Post Office which has been busy ripping up public mail boxes has been told by the Court to undo its mischievous behavior. Deaths by police of African American citizens via the use of chokeholds has prompted nationwide demonstrations against racism, with the president sending in governmental troops to quell the “lawless.” Racial sensitivity training was halted by the president, who said it was “un American.” And one bright day only a week ago the president admitted he had hidden the ominous imminent danger of the corona virus—which was perched on the U.S. horizon—from the people, so they wouldn’t panic. At the same time he did nothing to lessen the impact of the approaching deadly pandemic. The unafraid public thus became sitting ducks.

Meanwhile, a group of patriotic republicans formed the Lincoln Brigade in order to influence the coming presidential election, which the president warned would be rigged, adding that he wasn’t sure if he would honor the results of the election or not, saying “We’ll see.” The drama unfolds while in the wings–and throughout the United States–pandemic deaths escalate. Today it is sunshiny where I write, but as a nation more than 200,000 have already died in this the former land of plenty. The deaths of those who didn’t panic continue. Indeed, where have all the flowers gone? Long time passing.

JOURNAL CHRISTENING

Published September 20, 2020 by Nan Mykel

I just added something to my Journaling page about keeping a journal during the pandemic and decided it was a good idea, so today I’m beginning my Corona Virus Journal. Ann Frank did it, and so can I…try. I also re-read my post on that page about a trip abroad in 1961 containing many identifiable place names and saw how much that added to the posting. SO, I decided to record actual happenings along with places, persons and dates in the journal, which I am beginning today. On pages, entries usually occur at the end of the page, so that’s where I will post.
Knowing me as I do, I’ll probably add a tad about my own riding out the storm.

POSTSCRIPT – Scratch this. I was unable to post the diary on my page.

Nan’s Own Re-blog

THE WORLD IS FLAT AFTER ALL

Dubbed Democracy, it used to be

top of the line, the lead ship, at sea,

and on the land it served us well,

until the  strains of its death knell

fell,

baring an underbelly swole

with all the pilfered things they stole

in broad daylight, and  on t.v.!

Gone is the half-belief in he

who’ll take us safely to the shore

while staying steadfast to the core.

The compass nestles in the deep

while those on board remain asleep.

They used to say the earth was round,

that right makes might, but I found

that all I knew I now know not,

nor how to tell the truth from rot,

and not so sure that we’ll endure,

to make a safe arrival.

Belly Laff

“In an absolute political wipeout of a press conference Thursday, Donald Trump argued that journalist Bob Woodward should have “immediately” warned the American people about how dangerous the coronavirus was, and also admitted that China was more honest about the virus than he was.

Asked why he didn’t tell the public the virus was airborne, Trump responded: “If Bob Woodward thought what I said was bad, then he should have immediately, right after I said it, gone out to the authorities so they can prepare and let them know.”  –Excerpt from Daily Kos by Kerry Eleveld

The latest thing to send me into a fit of temper is Trump’s order to Russell Vought, Director of the Office of Management and Budget, to cease the government’s racial sensitivity training. Trump calls such training “un-American propaganda”. That’s right, folks … it is un-American to try to teach people not to discriminate, to try to remove the systemic racism that exists within our government and law enforcement community. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. 🤬

SHOCKING…

That our Health and Human Services plans to spend $250 million of taxpayer money on a Public Relations firm to con people into feeling better about a pandemic killing people every day rather than take meaningful steps to save lives by fighting the virus in a responsible manner prescribed by health experts. I for one can remember hearing Trump say in the early days that he “had a hunch” the numbers were inflated.

It’s like putting candy coating on a poison. How are we supposed to feel better about so many Americans dying? By comparing our response to those of other countries? Hong Kong makes testing free and available to everyone. We are about to help Americans feel good about the state of either an inept or purposeful and deadly non-response. And by the way, will the content not be free political advertisement? Footed by us.
