scholars such as Claire ColebrookRosi Braidotti and Tim Morton. Their work investigates how the category of humanity is formed and sustained – largely through literary, artistic and social practices. They actively question the validity of this category and the extent to which it should be protected or retrenched.

Ed Berger: The Stealth Coup to Destroy the American Dream

Published July 10, 2017 by Nan Mykel

The Citizens United Supreme Court decision sure made it easier for these gentlemen to Increase their demongoguery tenfold!

Diane Ravitch's blog

Ed Berger, a retired teacher who lives in Arizona and is active in the struggle to save public schools, has written a powerful post about the billionaire-funded movement to destroy our democracy.

It begins like this. I urge you to read it all:

“Within the core of our freedoms, lie the avenues powerful individuals use to take away the rights of citizens and the controls of government designed and evolved to serve all. Americans are now aware of the reality that subversive forces have made excessive headway in destroying our rights.

“What has been allowed is the incursion of an Oligarchy: The few exploiting the many. We are witnessing the theft of human rights through the infiltration of what were meant to be representative systems within a constitutionally defined government.

“My first introduction to those who want absolute power was through studies of The Robber Barons in America in the…

The Interior of the Puddle

Published July 10, 2017 by Nan Mykel

You’re certainly a “mindful” poet!

Poetry, Short Prose and Walking

Inside the puddle there’s a sky.
The clouds up high
Are now below
But muddied so.

I walk and bring along my mind.
We love to find
What’s likely true
And joyful, too.

A fantasy made from the light
Still isn’t night.
It’s truly day
Revealed this way.

Kentucky: CBS News Reports that the DeVos Agenda Would Destroy Rural Public Schools

Published July 10, 2017 by Nan Mykel

I think Betsy DeVos wants to destroy public schools because she’s so deep into “us versus them.” She’s dehumanizing those less lucky and less wealthy, the “peons.”

Diane Ravitch's blog

CBS News aired a great segment on the importance of rural public schools. They are the heart of the community. CBS News went to an impoverished community in Appalachia and interviewed students and the principal, who is also the school bus driver. The small rural public school in Letcher County doesn’t need competition. Most of its students live below the poverty line, yet the school is one of the best in the state.

Nine million children across the nation attend rural schools.

Why does Betsy DeVos want to destroy them?

Hello, Senator Mitch McConnell. These are your constituents!

Always Apologizing, Me

Published July 9, 2017 by Nan Mykel

When I first started blogging folks were curious why I had trouble posting to d’Verse. I found out why: I was trying to post my poem from the page I wrote it on which wasn’t a page, I guess, but a dashboard.

I think I’ve discovered another innocent error involving my pages.  I have 15 or 16 pages and no one told me how to get material on those pages. So, when I come across something that I have a page for, I post it there and not on my main blog.  Even if I’ve re-blogged, I post it on the relevant page.  I’m going to pause in this post now and explore more about what and how I do it and maybe someone can tell me how I should do it. I’ll be back…

A letter to the littles — Re-blog

Published July 7, 2017 by Nan Mykel

Alhough I’m not “religious,” I found this post very touching. Think I’ll reblog to share. Unpretentious.

ck's days

Written May 23, 2017 after reading the headlines about the Manchester Arena victims

Dear Big B, Ms M, Lil B, Dix, and Little K:

I am sorry you have inherited the world in its current condition. Let me be clear, I realize I am not nor can I accept personal responsibility for the state of affairs of your world. This has been generation upon generation in the making. However, I do feel some amount of anxiety when I think of your tender hearts learning how to survive and navigate in this world.

I am sorry that you are growing up in a world without secrets. Every accomplishment may be shared with strangers. Every mistake. Every embarrassment. The private learning curve previous generations had the privilege of enjoying is gone. Your life must be treated more as an open book and treated with caution as such.

Closely tied to no secrets…

Why All This Fuss Over Qatar By Major Players Like Saudi Arabia In The Middle East? Reblog from Grondin Morin

Published July 7, 2017 by Nan Mykel

Gronda Morin

Related imageThe political fallout regarding the republican President Donald Trump’s May 2017 trip to Saudi Arabia is the perfect example of how his lack of knowledge and incompetence regarding middle east issues, where he is like the bull in a china store, has caused real harm to U.S. national security interests.

Within a month, on June 5th, after the president’s first trip to Saudi Arabia, its officials along with others from Egypt, Bahrain and the UAE, instituted their land and air blockade of the tiny, wealthy emirate of Qatar.

Image result for photos of trump in saudi arabiaAs per the 7/5/17 Guardian report by Patrick Wintour, “On June 22, 2017, they issued a 13-point list of demands – including ending support for the Muslim Brotherhood and closing broadcaster al-Jazeera – to end the standoff / blockade and gave Qatar 10 days to comply.”

“However, the Saudi-led coalition held back from an immediate escalation of the dispute by declining to impose…

Rich people are more narcissistic and less ethical, a re-blog

Published July 5, 2017 by Nan Mykel

I wonder how much of the problem was caused by the Citizens United Supreme Court ruling, giving corporations personhood?

Lucky Otters Haven

Time Magazine published several articles citing studies showing that the wealthy are more narcissistic and less ethical than average folks.

Wealthy Selfies:  How Being Rich Increases Narcissism

Why The Rich Are Less Ethical:  They See Greed as Good

The Rich are Different: More Money, Less Empathy

Contrary to popular belief, the rich give less of their income to charity than even poor people, by percentage of income.   The poor are more, not less, likely to be grateful and less, not more, likely to feel entitled than the rich.

I think these articles explain a lot about our current government, which is full of narcissistic, unethical, even criminal billionaires, their wealthy donors (The Koch Brothers, the Mercers, Russian oligarchs, and others) and the apparently unlimited power they wield.   Great wealth, insatiable greed and a sense of entitlement is what has allowed these people to take control of all three…
