Don’t Forget This! Breaking the Law

Published February 4, 2018 by Nan Mykel

Trump’s recent refusal to enforce sanctions against Russia, even though Congress unanimously voted for same, is in flat out opposition to the rule of law. The constitution provides that the president will enforce laws made by Congress. He doesn’t get to cherry pick which laws he likes. That is autocracy and fascism, not democracy.

Militant Negro Shared Good News With Us

2. Instead of wedding gifts, Utah teacher requests items for homeless students
When Rickee Stewart walks down the aisle next month, she won’t have any wedding presents waiting for her when the day is over — and that’s exactly how she wants it. The West Jordan, Utah, high school teacher told KSL.com she had no idea there were more than 100 homeless students at Copper Hills High School until the school set up a food pantry for them, and in her wedding invitations, she let guests know that instead of sending gifts to her, they could help provide students with coats, shoes, and blankets. Donations are coming in from across the U.S., and Stewart said her “hope is that we get to not only have this amazing wedding and start our lives together, but that we are able to put some warmth on all of those kids.”Source: KSL

A Gift for Your Incest Abuser

Published February 3, 2018 by Nan Mykel

A few minutes ago while still woolgathering in bed, I realized that only incest victims were being told about my first book, which was really addressed to incest offenders.  So, I thought I’d let incest victims know about the perfect gift for their incester, in case their offender was still alive.

I am included among those who never confronted their  familial abuser, and he’s dead now, a scattered pile of ashes in the flower bed of a former dwelling place, in another town.

It is not a rude book, but informative.  Very informative.  Just thought I’d let you know.

Unanswered Question: Who Do Transgender Individuals Love?

Published February 2, 2018 by Nan Mykel

I’m struggling with this question because I’m writing a novel about a male-to-female gendered individual and am confused how gender identity and   sexuality go together. I know there are many combinations and preferences, even asexuality, but my two main characters are both female and both 22/23 year old virgins who are thrown together by circumstances.  Jules has transitioned only above the waist while Lucy has never even questioned her identity.  Any suggestions or experiences anyone can share?  My mind just kind of flips when I consider a good resolution.

Freeing Movie: Dolores Huerta

Published January 31, 2018 by Nan Mykel

Since I totalled my car Jan. 21, I have been wheeless so was glad Alexa suggested she pick me up for a free movie.  The free movie was a documentary on Dolores Huerta, first of a series on Women Pioneers sponsored/presented by O.U.’s College of Fine Arts at the local Athena Cinema.  I viewed it during the timeframe that our president was delivering the State of the Union Address. and among other things the documentary addressed many of the issues current on the political scene,  historically (although Dolores Huerta is still alive and beautiful at 87).  She partnered for years with Cesar Chavez in the fight for racial and labor justice. Mexican farm laborers at work and in protest are spotlighted from archived film.

What got me on this kick is the freeing effect it had on me personally, in that Dolores has led such an active life outside society’s restraints.  (Almost totally outside). She is a free, loving, courageous woman who has always responded to her inner drummer.  The experience has given me a shot in the arm.

Wholely Holly — an accidental quadrille re-named when nobody visited

Published January 31, 2018 by Nan Mykel

It’s freezing tonight.

A rubber-backed pad

and a blue blanket

from my own bed

cover the  offspring

of its parent holly

which  froze to death

last year.  I don’t want

to lose another one,

so I swaddle  it under

neath my old

person’s walker.

WORDS, a quadrille for d’Verse

Published January 29, 2018 by Nan Mykel

WORDS

My thin black words

on this cold white page

can’t breathe, won’t bleed,

don’t whimper in the dark;

impotent fossils, barren husks,

dropped spoor.

Not the real thing at all,

not the rustle in the weeds

nor the shrill screech

of the wild boar.
