I spend two days a week as a volunteer with an organization that as part of its mission is engaged in feeding homeless people and trying to get them at least bare-minimum health care. Some of these folks have jobs, but minimum wage is a joke. We are up to our eyeballs in clients. Anyone who doesn’t believe that there is an awful lot of desperate poverty in the U.S. has chosen not to see what is all around them.
