Yes ma’am. That’s why we write. Because it fucking hurts

Thank you, thank you…

A deeply felt thank you to my dear friend Old Punk.  Your keen eye, wisdom, sense of humor, endless compassion and well-timed kicks in the ass mean more me than I can ever express.

I know that I apologize too much

for the things I say

for the things I write

for the things I do

for not caring enough

for caring too much

for bleeding a little too much

on the screen

for breathing

for existing

past the age of 30

which I never envisioned happening

and that I don’t feel that the universe

quite approves of

and may still demand retribution

I am trying to stop apologizing

for anything and everything

and instead start expressing my gratitude

when you listen

when you read my words

when you forgive my actions

accept the caring I do have to offer

hand me the bandages

allow me the space to breath

encourage me to keep existing

Thessaloniki roadtrip – a re-blog

Simply joyously breathtaking…

Thessaloniki, or as Bulgarians call it Solun, is the main city in North Greece and is only a 4-5 hour drive away from Sofia. This makes it a perfect long weekend destination for Bulgarians that want to enjoy some great sea views and food. Strangely enough I myself had never spent much time in Thessaloniki and I’m glad I had the chance to go there in the first days of spring. The population of Thessaloniki is a bit less than a million people making it very lively and culturally eventful place that in the same time is not too big to be hard to navigate around. It is a typical Mediterranean city that reminded me a bit of Naples and Barcelona, but with the slight twist added by its position on the Balkan peninsula. Probably most importantly of all (for our purposes here) Thessaloniki is just amazingly…

List for d’Verse

Published May 11, 2017 by Nan Mykel

A list? I’m pist.  Never was

told how to write one of those.

Let’s see— A List?  I’m just cleaning out  here

now, dealing with the blood folks

Coleman, Craighead and Buckman;

Bassett, Regester and the old pirate

Drake;  Lovelace from prison while

Francis’ second verse to the anthem

got outlawed. Sooo sorry  that Judge

Taney ruled the wrong way on the

Dred Scott Case or that Turnbull

mistreated his New Smyrna workers.

Sorry sorry sorry for their deeds and

You note I’m not adding me to this list.

OOOOOh! You sure got a lot of stuff out! I feel like collaging psychologically cleans the veins (but not of blood), This kind of expression goes along so nicely with journaling.

My First Ghazal Attempt

Published May 10, 2017 by Nan Mykel

WILL THE REAL BOOGIE MAN STAND UP?

I first learned without suspicion about

the mechanical steamroller evolution.

How can a moral world flourish under

the uncaring constraints of evolution?

Not a thing but a process sans thought

or heart, this numbed evolution.

The human food chain enacted on tv

should be no surprise;   it’s evolution.

What hand was in the glove that delivered

from the womb of time evolution?

P.S. Just found the following in my messy desk but didn’t write the source down:

“Evolution has hidden from us the stuff that we don’t need to know, and that’s pretty much all of reality, whatever reality might be.”

Your death taught me

at far too young an age

the legacy left behind for survivors

of suicide

I was more than a little in love

with your beautiful cheekbones

I could spend an entire class

studying  your elegant hands

I felt that you were a kindred spirit

always outwardly so strong,

so cool

so remote

so protective of the vulnerability

that I could sense

below your surface

I tried to reach out to you

after you lost him

to the self-inflicted wounds

but my voice must have sounded

like a whisper

in a hurricane

Even after all these years

I am so very sorry

that we were not enough

to call you back from the abyss
