A corny curl

Published January 2, 2017 by Nan Mykel

There once was a little tot

who wore her hair up in a  knot.

She was cute and she was pretty

but more was the pity

that little Joe  preferred a girl

who wore her tresses in a curl.

 Tot’s  happy now, and gay.

POOR HOUSE BOUND

They decided to end it all—

This penny-pinching was no good

and so they headed for the mall

to see what their pocket money could

buy. Searching cheap yet delicious,

they hoped horse would be nutritious.

Two croissants finished the menu.

Their front stoop being their venue,

the landlord found them sitting there

looking quite satisfied, of course,

after they spent the rent on horse.

With the eviction delivered,

the old woman shivered

while her man gave a booming  belch,

which he was unable to squelch,

saying “Pardon,” but his sly grin

grew and then got away from him.

BOOKOPHILE

Not all her lovers had looks

because you see they were books.

Their rendezvous was the shelf

where she’d clasp him to herself,

then peek under the cover

of her new paper lover.

By the time she checked him out

there was no longer any doubt;

despite what the critics said,

she was taking him to bed!
