ABODE OF MY DREAMS – A Poem

Published March 6, 2017 by Nan Mykel

ABODE OF MY DREAMS

The amphibian in me

climbed up the beach,

then turned around

and retraced her steps,

reluctant to abandon the

tears that provide the

ocean’s salt and the

underwater resting place

of dreams and memories.

Small conch shells provide

shelter for the likes of us

and their inhabitants

welcome well-fed housemates.

Some days warm currents,

colorful in their lacy ocean

finery, caress passersby with

armloads of sweet memories.

Since perfection cannot exist

without its opposite, the

idyllic setting also harbors

bedlam. Tsunamis dance on

the horizon, foreshadowing

disruption and chaos. Dreaded

also in both worlds is the

living nightmare which darts

in and out of murky shadows,

menacingly hovering hungrily,

waiting to strike; the barracuda.

Dead Men’s Bones and Me

Published March 6, 2017 by Nan Mykel

Actually, I spend much of my time in a healthy manner, contemplating dead men’s withered bones:

“Wenn schnode Wollust dich erfullt,

So werde durch ein Schreckensbild

Verdorrter Totenknochen

Der Kitzel unterbrochen.”

[“When base lust fills thy thoughts,

Let a horrible picture rise before thy mind

Of withered dead men’s bones,

So let the sensual stimulation be driven away.”]

From Old Dream Class Notes

WHEN WE HAVE A DREAM: 1. Record it  2. Date it  3. Write it in the present tense  4. Give it a title, then look at it for the following:

I there a subliminal message?

Does it tie into day residue of the day or days before?

Check it for the 6 pun possibilities.

Is it a recurring theme?

Are recurring symbols in it?

Extract the theme and reflect.

Reflect on feelings in the dream.

Free associate to the symbols.

Amplify the symbols (Gestalt, dialogue with, express, etc.)

Does the dream reflect me, my life, a conflict, a relationship, etc.?

Is the dream compensatory? If so, what about my life is it commenting on?

Is the dream prospective? If so, in what way?

Could it reflect developmental impasses?

Does it reflect an earlier trauma?

Annivesary reminder- this time another year what happened?

Does the dream reflect our physical state?

Is it a wish fulfillment?

Does it make us aware of an emotion not fully experienced?

Does it complete that which was dimly perceived in our waking state? (Poetzl)

Did the dreamer behave in a non-useful way? If so, re-visualize and allow a different behavioral response.

Share this dream with another, if it seems appropriate.

Was the dream lucid, and if so, did the dreamer control the dream?

Is the dream archetypal?  If so, what in the dreamer’s life prompted it? Do the archetypes expand awareness of the personality?

How will the dreamer change his/her self as a result of the dream?

If the dreamer can extract a gift from the dream to share, do it.

Reflect on your “growing edge” or incubated question and see if the dream addresses that.

Does the dream differ in any way from earlier dreams or reflect a change?

Does it feel reincarnational?

Does it contain any early memories?

A birth dream?

apocalypse (20170302)

Has the ring of truth and grimness; sadness.

crow's avatarWords and Feathers

he wandered for a year
among corpses and deserted buildings
one morning everyone had gone mad
and each body he found was
riddled with bullets
every cartridge emptied, every magazine spent

he hoped that, now,
since he really was the last man on earth
if he could find a woman,
he might finally get some action
but that seemed less likely
with each new sunset

animals avoided him
he thought, not out of fear
but out of some kind of pity

the supermarkets were still stocked
even though the fresh food had rotted
cans and boxes were plentiful
the food had expiration dates
years in advance
cereal bars and beef jerky

he never spotted another person
man or woman
and after a while
he stopped talking even to himself
he knew he’d never be able to bury the dead
not all of them
not even all of the ones

Sterling Snippet for Survivors from Bethanyk

Published March 3, 2017 by Nan Mykel

I hope all survivors can read the original, from whence the following came:

“For me, Healing is not about letting go. Healing is not about forgiveness. Those 2 things focus on the other person. They focus on an act and a connection to the perpetrator I need to do in order to recover.

“For me, healing is in truth. Healing is in walking through the fire.It is about epiphanies that come from reflecting, being mindful, accepting the wounded parts of myself.  Healing is breaking the silence. Healing is rediscovering the me that was stolen hundreds of times by a child molester and a rapist. Healing is about loving my body, listening to my body, embracing who I am. Healing is about overcoming the shame someone else tried to put onto me. Healing is regaining safety, overcoming fear, and learning techniques to get through daily struggles.”

Hanging On – for d’Verse

Published March 2, 2017 by Nan Mykel

Cleaning out the home office,

soothing the wrinkles from

every dear aging surface once

again, I cannot bid final adieu

to one relic after another on

my cluttered desk top, where

love struggles to reclaim loss.

Rob doused by AIDS, Irma by a

mind sputtered out, Phyllis lost

to winnowing  of the spark.

If not now, when?
