Ivanka Hurts Womens’ Rights

The first daughter supports scrapping a plan to help guarantee equal pay. No one should be surprised.

So much for Ivanka Trump as America’s moderate savior. The favored first daughter – who wants her name to be synonymous with women’s equality at work – has failed again and again to provide a measured influence on her father’s obsessive rollback of women’s rights. Her presence in the White House, a polished false promise, has done almost nothing to protect the most vulnerable victims of Trump’s policies.

This week, for example, the Trump administration decided to do away with a policy that would have mandated employers document their workers’ pay alongside gender and race information and provide it to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

The idea is that requiring this kind of accountability from employers will help to narrow the wage gap. Tracy Sturdivant, executive director of Make It Work, called the administration’s decision “an unacceptable and deliberate attack on women in the workplace, especially black and Hispanic women”.

Given Ivanka’s “Women Who Work” campaign and her repeated claim that she wants to level the playing field for women’s wages, you would think the businesswoman would have rallied support to keep the policy in place – or at the very least disagreed with her father’s decision. (“Where I disagree with my father, he knows it and I express myself with total candor,” she once told Gayle King on CBS.)

Instead, Ivanka supported her father’s move, releasing a flat statement that claimed while “the intention was good … the proposed policy would not yield the intended results”. Watch out, Gloria Steinem!

It’s become a pattern: Ivanka claims to care about an issue, her father does something horrible, Ivanka says and does nothing.

The first daughter has claimed to support the LGBT community, but where was her steady advice or independent spirit when her father hastily tweeted out that trans people would be banned from serving in any capacity in the military?

Outside of taking a few meetings the first months of Trump’s presidency, why has Ivanka said nothing of her father’s destructive stance on climate change – especially as Texas is underwater, battered by a hurricane?

Despite her supposed support for women’s rights, Ivanka’s sole suggestion to help save Planned Parenthood from the Republican effort to defund the organization was that they stop providing abortions.

When its president, Cecile Richards, of course refused this strange offer, Ivanka’s surrogates tried to reach out to board members behind Richards’ back. (They were given the same answer.) Richards later said: “Anyone who works in this White House is responsible for addressing why women are in the crosshairs of basically every single policy that we’ve seen out of this administration.”…….

I HAD A DREAM

I HAD A DREAM

It was a hilarious,

off-the-wall and wild

satire in which a

lyin’ thieving varmint

wormed his way into our White

House with his lying cheating thugs

and referred to it as “a dump,”

which isn’t laughable, but then

he tooted his horn on Twitter,

(“To tremble with agitation”).

He got even with his friends and

was said to blackmail  supporters.

His “base” was aptly named: base,

a sackful of KKK types,

gun-toting cross-burning Nazi

white supremacists. Who would want

to claim them but another varmint.

What’s so funny about this dream?

The horror on the faces of those

who woke up in the same bed with the

whole stinkin’  bunch of desecraters.

(I guess it really was a nightmare.)

Or was it reality 2017?

Okay, maybe his LGBT thing may be due to ignorance or deep-seated psychiatric homophobia, and maybe sometimes his wife has to remind him to salute the U/S. flag, but now we’re having a look at his enlarged reptilian brain when he urged a gathering ofpolice today to not be too gentle with suspects, maybe not protecting their heads when putting them into the cruiser or tossing them into the paddy wagon.  That took my breath away.  I don’t like to think hateful thoughts, but I briefly imagined him being treated that way when he is finally arrested.

SECRETS KEPT SECRET? re trump

Published February 19, 2017 by Nan Mykel

….There is more consequential IC pushback happening, too. Our spies have never liked Trump’s lackadaisical attitude toward the President’s Daily Brief, the most sensitive of all IC documents, which the new commander-in-chief has received haphazardly. The president has frequently blown off the PDB altogether, tasking Flynn with condensing it into a one-page summary with no more than nine bullet-points. Some in the IC are relieved by this, but there are pervasive concerns that the president simply isn’t paying attention to intelligence.

In light of this, and out of worries about the White House’s ability to keep secrets, some of our spy agencies have begun withholding intelligence from the Oval Office. Why risk your most sensitive information if the president may ignore it anyway? A senior National Security Agency official explained that NSA was systematically holding back some of the “good stuff” from the White House, in an unprecedented move. For decades, NSA has prepared special reports for the president’s eyes only, containing enormously sensitive intelligence. In the last three weeks, however, NSA has ceased doing this, fearing Trump and his staff cannot keep their best SIGINT secrets.

If the PDB was being boiled down by Flynn — before he was asked to resign as National Security Advisor for lying to the Vice President — to a single page with no more than 9 bullet points, the President really isn’t getting all the information anyway and the CIA Directory denying the “withhold” is practically meaningless when it’s the NSA holding sensitive information back, not neccesarily CIA.  But then again all of that is a perfect example of Trump lack of comprehension and understanding.

So despite including the denials, CBS still finished with….

The reality is, insiders say, that there has been a “chill” in the information flow. Intelligence sources say the agency is intent on protecting information, and if there are concerns it could be compromised, it will be withheld.

The ongoing investigation into whether Trump associates coordinated with the Russians remains a concern for some who handle sensitive data. It can be inferred that there is a lack of trust, and because the CIA has had a role in uncovering signs of Russian cyber intrusions, there are also concerns that sensitive information could be shared with adversaries….

New Challenge: To Reject Trump the Perverse, Poets Wage a Battle in Verse – An Excerpt

(This may be an alternate truth) from Nicholas Kristof 9-2- 2017: NY Times Op-Ed page

trump-poetry-illegalSome people stand up to President Trump in the courts, others in street protests. And the poets among us, they battle President Trump with an arsenal of verse….

Susan McLean, a poet and English professor at Southwest Minnesota State University:

Trump seethes at what the writers say.
He’ll pull the plug on the N.E.A.
The joke’s on him. Art doesn’t pay.
We write our satires anyway.
