I DON’T KNOW, but it has come to my attention via an opinion piece in today’s New York Times that Latino immigrants are bringing with them a more intense, active level of Christian religiosity than that manifested by white protestants. It also seems puzzling news to think that Christianity is catching on worldwide, as compared to its occurrence in the United States.
More than 40,000 churches in the United States are currently in the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference.
How will this all play out? I guess we’ll see. Get the lowdown from Tish Harrison Warren’s op ed Times piece of 3/26/23.
I think this development offers hope! Christians (who genuinely follow Christ) are usually good neighbors and community members because they value integrity, compassion, and peace.

I agree, but Christians who genuinely follow Christ seem to be in short supply, based on what I read. What is your experience of our culture today?

The Christians in my church and community are not perfect but they support local hospitals, schools, domestic abuse shelter, women’s healthcare, adoption agencies, and refugees. I believe these actions are motivated by their faith. Unfortunately, our broader culture seems increasingly anti-Christian.

Thanks for writing. I guess I’m wondering: faith in what? Do faith and ethics usually go hand in hand?

I think it’s faith in God and the ethics He commands in his word, the Bible.
