ABODE OF MY DREAMS – A Poem

Published March 6, 2017 by Nan Mykel

ABODE OF MY DREAMS

The amphibian in me

climbed up the beach,

then turned around

and retraced her steps,

reluctant to abandon the

tears that provide the

ocean’s salt and the

underwater resting place

of dreams and memories.

Small conch shells provide

shelter for the likes of us

and their inhabitants

welcome well-fed housemates.

Some days warm currents,

colorful in their lacy ocean

finery, caress passersby with

armloads of sweet memories.

Since perfection cannot exist

without its opposite, the

idyllic setting also harbors

bedlam. Tsunamis dance on

the horizon, foreshadowing

disruption and chaos. Dreaded

also in both worlds is the

living nightmare which darts

in and out of murky shadows,

menacingly hovering hungrily,

waiting to strike; the barracuda.

    • Oh, I’m in one writing group a week and Thursdays is about all I can keep up with. I’ve heard of Real Toads, 6 word stories, eytc., but I still haven’t opened all my snail mail from when I was in Atlanta and I still do a little tape/editing for Public Access and I have dirty dishes living in the sink, visit Mandy Sundays, etc. I can’t even keep my various doctors’ appointments straight. My eye doctor refuses to see me any more due to missed appointments, etc. I’m sure I’m like everybody else, but not everybody is 81… (Fuss fuss fuss, Sorry). The last Thursday I couldn’t get it posted again on d’Verse, Do I submit it from my final post or my saved dashboard post?

At first I responded to your tree poem but see now you may have meant Abode of My Dreams. I see Akismet cleared my earlier comment–By the bye, you don’t have a reblog button.
Anyway, what I told you was that your tree poem reminded me of mine
      Sheltered
I don’t know God but I know His tree.
No pillar of salt, but might as well be.
Planted in place, it cannot flee,
but curls its toes in the loam that is home.

I like your stationary while bouncing all over the universe. What cool cats we are!
And I see in the news today that we may be bouncing around the CIA and other hot spots.

      • How Trump could’ve been elected is a complete mystery! I’ll check the reblog button business. I have a lot of admin to do on my blog, ie updating the blogroll and so on as well.

You post from your final blog as it appears to other people. Copy the url address and paste it into the space provided at Mr Linky.
