Gentlewoman or Young Lady?

Published January 13, 2021 by Nan Mykel

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi today introduced female congresswomen as “Gentlewoman.” There was a nice-appearing man who seemed to prefer introducing them as “Young Ladies,” regardless of aparent age. I didn’t hear him introduce any male congressmen as “young gentleman,” however, regardless of apparent age.

I wonder why?

Does the sex with the most empathy always lose?

We have learned that backlash follows backlash. But have we lived through a time of backlashes actively fighting one another simultaneously?

One official says that you can’t be a victim after 40 years [oh yeah? How about 70 years?] I understand this regime scores low on knowledge of history and even reading, but surely they must have soaked up something of women being afraid to report rape due to negative response and treatment, and a blemish on her reputation.  For underage children there’s something called the Child Sexual Abuse Syndrome, in which when children do report, family pressures them to recant. Now at the same time that mysogynism has raised its head in daylight from murky waters again,  even sitting on its own throne,  a good many women are responding with alarm to the additional loss in dignity and rights they have lost and are continuing to lose.  At times I can’t figure Betsy DeVos out, with her greatest concern about perpetrators. I guess she can see which way the president is pushing. Good girl, a pat on the bottom for you!
