Bitter?

HELL YES….About the percentage of white women who voted for Trump and/or believed him, after his apparently uncontrollable habit of lying.  Now, it’s said federal restrictions on abortion may be next.  I do, however, appreciate the number of black women who voted for Harris

POUT?

Not enough time to comfort myself.  And unable to choose one battle.  Can’t give up transgender, climate change, refugees, corporations as individuals,  gun control, and racial injustice.  I can’t touch Putin, Ukraine, Mazda and Israel, and nuclear anything, so I won’t even try. (I’d cry.)

NOTE:  I do want to strongly refer you to Diane Ravitch’s blog today–maybe yesterday–featuring a re-blog of Greg Olear: The Grim Reality Begins to Set In.

AGHAST!  What with all the crooked, destructive things AI has caused via the internet, I see on Google you can get your toe in the door for free, but bewarned:   While there are free AI resources available, it’s essential to assess whether the quality meets your standards. Many times, when you pick free options, you may compromise functionality, reliability, and user support.

NAIEVE?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 I thought hispanic Americans would oppose Trump, since he has threatened to bomb Mexico, but I must be naive, in addition to everything else.  Perhaps the hispanics along the Texas border with Mexico who switched party preferences in the very recent election  (to Republican) have become alienated from their natal relationships, or didn’t read about Trump’s words during a campaign rally at the Van Andel Arena on July 20, 2024 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, as covered by a number of different sources, without much feedback.   There is every reason to take Trump’s proposal seriously, according to https://www.vox.com.  “Presidents tend to at least try to deliver on campaign promises, and they have nearly unlimited war-making power nowadays. As unthinkable as it may sound, there is a reasonable chance the United States will be at war on its southern border in the coming years if Donald Trump returns to office.”  (Read “if” as “when”)

So how come nobody is talking about it?  And why did a large chunk of hispanic voters switch their vote to Republican along the border in Texas?

OOF…

After things settle down, if they ever should, Trump’s words and frame of mind just prior to the 2024 election are destined to reverberate in history books and also foretell a bumpy immediate future for the U.S.   He crassly insulted the sexuality of his opponent Kamala Harris, called Democrats “demonic,” imagined Liz Cheney facing a fusillade of bullets, made remarks about the late golfer Arnold Palmer’s genitalia and promised to prosecute political opponents who “cheat” in the election.  He also remarked he wouldn’t mind if members of the press were shot if there was another assassination attempt at one of his rallies. His campaign denied he was insinuating the media should be harmed. (Another Duh.)

“I have this piece of glass here,” he said of the ballistic glass protecting him at a recent rally in Lititz, Pa. “But all we have really over here is the fake news. And to get me, somebody would have to shoot through the fake news. And I don’t mind that so much.” At another rally Trump  called the Democratic Party “demonic” and accused it of wanting to imprison his supporters.  Over a malfunctioning microphone at one rally, he asked the crowd, “Do you want to see me knock the hell out of people backstage?” While wrestling with the glitchy mike he simulated performing oral sex, resulting in cheers from his supporters.

His worst, most revelatory statement was that he should never have left the White House after the 2020 election.  Most likely he never plans to leave again.

what cause to choose?

KEITH WILSON SAYS on musingsofanoldfart:  I need to pick my battles. And, I suggest each of you do the same. We should follow our passions and make our voice known when we disagree with the decisions made. But, we cannot fight everything, so be choosy.

I (NAN) am trying to pick my battle.  FOR INSTANCE:

At the end of what will probably be the hottest year in recorded history, with extreme weather driven by climate change wreaking havoc around the globe, the world is confronting a second Trump term.

On the campaign trail, Trump continued to call climate change a hoax, said he would pull out of the Paris accord again, pledged to expand oil and gas production and roll back pollution controls, and threatened to eliminate federal incentives that promote renewable energy and electric vehicles.  (I would choose this cause but feel it’s doomed due to the next president’s strong anti stance and stated active plans to  hurry the end.  And they want us to have more babies to roast?!)

Unfortunately, I doubt that I can limit myself to one cause.  I think it’s too late for climate change, the Supreme Court and abortions, even the Corporations, but surely not too late to take on Women for Liberty?  And I cannot even imagine being forced to resent unwanted foetuses!  I have 4 children, all wanted.  And I am obviously no longer fertile, but if I were I would possibly go around saying “Gay,” for spite.  And I suspect I’ll be against whatever Musk is wanting from Trump.  Going against the richest man in the world?  Rots o’ Ruck!

YOU’LL “PROTECT ME?”

Published November 3, 2024 by Nan Mykel

At least Trump wasn’t talking about abortion when he said he would protect women “whether they like it or not” during a rally in Wisconsin   He was talking about protecting women from the “dangerous” immigrants Harris let in from insane asylums, etc.  Just the phrase, no matter what he was referring to, suggests that he sees women as being inferior to men…needing protection.  Many of us believe women do need protection: from him.

Later, on CBS News, he reflected that his advisers deemed the line about protecting women “inappropriate.”  Duh. Being Trump, he was unwilling to listen to them.

LIE DETECTORS
The November 2024 issue of The Smithsonian has an article by Susan Saulny  titled “The Truth of the Matter,” with a quote from an early San Francisco Examiner about the invention of the lie detector: “All liars, regardless of cleverness, are doomed.”
Hopefully that message from the past, promises a bright future for us. Humanity has struggled with lying individuals for ages. Saulny reports that in order to catch liars, the ancient Chinese would sometimes give the accused a mouthful of uncooked rice during interrogation–and then ask the person to open wide. Dry rice would indicate a dry mouth, considered evidence of nervous guilt–and sometimes grounds for execution.   [This method has recently been deemed somewhat valid, since as was assumed then – and is currently supported by more recent evidence – that the nervous tension created by lying slows or blocks the flow of saliva.]

In India, around 900 BC, one method used to detect poisoners was observations of shaking. In ancient Greece a rapid pulse rate was taken to indicate deceit.  The Middle Ages saw barbaric forms of lie detection used in Europe, such as the red-hot iron method which involved suspected criminals placing their tongue, often multiple times, on a red-hot iron. There, a burnt tongue indicated guilt.

The polygraph (aka “lie detector”) was pioneered by William Marston, a lawyer and psychologist who would later earn fame as the creator pf Wonder Woman. with her famous Lasso of Truth. CLARIFICATION:  William Marston pioneered the device, John A. Larson added developments, but according to an entry in Google, the person currently known as the father of the polygraph is Leonarde Keeler, who patented the prototype of the modern polygraph in 1939,

Science tells us that an infallible lie detection method has yet to be found. In fact, it has been pointed out that most lie detection methods don’t detect lies at all – instead, they register the physiological or behavior signs of stress or fear.

And today, if the person lying doesn’t experience stress or fear, there’s Fact Check…

Access Hollywood tape of Trump bragging on serial sexual assault resurfaces–Keith Wilson

Keith Wilson

Oct 31, 2024, 3:51 PM (18 hours ago)

to
An audio tape the former president hoped would be forever buried has resurfaced. Per the article by Eva Upton-Clark in Fast Company called “Trump’s ‘Access Hollywood’ tape is making the rounds on TikTok,” it reports on reaction to the former president boasting about his impunity to sexually grope women’s private parts. Per the subheadline, “The Republican Voters Against Trump’s TikTok account reposted the infamous audio clip this month, reigniting controversy just ahead of the election.”

Here is the gist of the article:

“’Grab them by the p***y.’ Thought that phrase was buried in the past? Think again. With the election on the horizon, the notorious conversation between former President Donald Trump and Billy Bush, then of Access Hollywood, has since resurfaced on TikTok and is horrifying a whole new generation of voters.

Earlier this month, the TikTok account of the Republican Voters Against Trump reposted the infamous Access Hollywood tape, reigniting controversy just ahead of the election. In the 2005 recording, Trump is caught on a hot mic bragging about kissing, groping, and pursuing women without consent. Originally leaked during the 2016 election as an ‘October surprise,’ the tape dates back to an incidental conversation from that year on a bus arriving at the set of Days of Our Lives, a soap opera that was set to feature Trump in a cameo appearance.

‘I better use some Tic Tacs just in case I start kissing her,’ Trump said to Bush. ‘You know I’m automatically attracted to beautiful . . . I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait,’ Trump continued. ‘And when you’re a star they let you do it. You can do anything. Grab them by the p—y. You can do anything.’

The resurfaced audio has kicked off a viral TikTok maelstrom of young women filming their reactions to hearing the audio, eight years after the clip’s release. ‘When your father who has 6 daughters and 4 granddaughters who is also a men’s pastor is voting for this man again,’ reads one video caption. ‘It’s honestly a slap in our face.’

‘Just a reminder, this is the man on the ballot this year,’ adds another. All the women in the videos have the same expression while listening to the audio: one of disgust. The comments of many of the videos are also filled with blue heart emojis, signaling their support for the Democratic nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris.”

It should be noted that twenty-seven women have accused Trump of sexual assault describing his inappropriate groping in a similar manner. It should be noted that many of their accusations occurred before this Access Hollywood tape was made public in October, 2016. Just last week, one more woman came forward and accused Trump of groping her in a similar manner in 1993, noting she was introduced by Jeffrey Epstein who went to jail for brokering private parties with wealthy friends and young women, some even teenage. And, earlier this year during the E. Jean Carroll defamation case against Trump, the judge said there was evidence of “digital rape.”

Finally, if that were not enough, Trump liked going on the far less than pious online Howard Stern show. On several shows, Trump was reported to boast of his impunity as sponsor to walk in on beauty pageant contestants, including teen girls, while they were changing. One teen girl said they referred to Trump as the “creepy old man.” Maybe we can put that on a bumper sticker with “Don’t vote for the” in front of it.
