“Senator, Why Are You Being Arrested?”

Georgia’s Nikema Williams wasn’t even part of Tuesday’s Capitol protest, but state police hauled her off to jail anyway.

The morning of Tuesday, November 13, started out like many others for Nikema Williams. The Democratic state senator, who since 2017 has represented a diverse district covering a broad swath of Atlanta, showed up to work at the Georgia State Capitol for a special legislative session. A few hours later, the day became one she’ll never forget. “I keep replaying this in my mind over and over,” she told me. “Never did I imagine my day was going to end in jail.”

  • WOW! I cannot believe … well, yes I can. We are rapidly becoming a third-world nation and giving up our status as both a democracy and a leader of the Western world. What a horrible way to treat anyone, but to arrest a bloomin’ SENATOR for Pete’s sake, in handcuffs, and ask her to strip? NO … just NO! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

  • Trump won’t be impeached, so the only way Pence will be in the Oval Office is if Trump dies or becomes incapacitated. And I cannot see Pence ever winning election, for he isn’t popular and seems rather wishy-washy, not to mention his own state was glad enough to be rid of him. That said … I don’t think Pence would be as bad as Trump, for while yes, he is a bigot, he isn’t an emotional maelstrom as Trump is. I believe he would at least be smart enough to listen to more experienced advisors and try to mend fences with our allies. I could be wrong, but that’s just how I see it. I just want them both gone!

      • Ahhhh … well, since my prediction was far off base in 2016 when I said Trump couldn’t possibly win the elections, you should probably take whatever I say with a grain of salt. That said … I think that if we only have two more years of Trump, we should count our blessings, for as it stands right now, I think there’s a very good chance he could win again in 2020. Why? Because the democrats aren’t pulling together and they have no viable candidate lined up for 2020. The current in-fighting over Pelosi is indicative of the divisions within the party, and frankly, I think the DNC is still licking its wounds over the shock of losing in 2016 when they, and I, thought Hillary had it in the bag. They are going to have to come up with a strong candidate who has no baggage that Trump can use to attack, and they are going to have to have cohesion. Right now, both of those things are missing. Sigh. I do so hope I’m wrong!
