When I’m moved to pen a verse, I first run through metaphors and see which one grabs the me of the moment….. Suddenly I am approached by a squirming nondescript thing that I cannot process because it is so alien and so set on frightening me. It succeeds.
Coal black nonentity
minnows dimple moon’s reflection
loon’s bassoon plays itself

What preceded the above: Today, walking down my path I caught sight of a strange animal out of the corner of my eye, just as it was scurrying to safety under under a clump of pampas grass. It was perhaps 3 inches long, coal black, furry, and appeared to be running on four legs. Is anyone familiar with this being, or were my eyes playing tricks on me?
