Freeing a Poem — for Real Toads

FREEING A POEM

Scraping what dwells in the bottom

of the bowl as it burbles, bubbles, babbles,

prattles and speaks in tongues

is a task only the Witness of the

Waking State can calmly oversee,

a scramble of them all, but on the

bottom of the bottom is fear.

About Nan Mykel

At 79, I was just about to stop keeping a journal, but that felt like accepting that growth was finished. I don't want to be finished, yet! I'm 80 now, and struggling to communicate with you, if you'll come and set awhile. P.S. My how time flies! I'm 83 now.

  1. Kerry says:

Witness of the Waking State .. this is an intriguing psychological interpretation of the illustration, if that was your intention here. (I am uncertain because you have not referenced the artwork.)

  3. I can see so much of a fight between good and evil in the picture… we need to have courage.
